Welcome to Studio 131

Drums: There are lot of options for your rhythm tracks. One way is to bring your drums and record them here. Another way is to record drums in a bigger studio and do the rest here. We also offer great drum programming in house that sounds so realistic it's hard to tell if it's a drum machine or real. So lotsa choices available.

The main room here is about 5m x 6m about 30m2. During overdubs and general playback it feels nice and still. Its a very useable recording environment from spoken word through jazz groups through to rock and pop bands.

Currently we record drums using the Glynn Johns method. This setup has been used by the Rolling Stones, The Who and Led Zeppelin. It involves using 2 overhead mics (AT&T 2020 and 2021 or 3528) a mic on the front of the kick (AKG D112) a Shure SM57 on top of snare, plus another 57 under the snare.

These 5 signals go through a converter and into 5 logic tracks. 3 dynamics on the kit plus 2 x condensers overhead builds up a classic drums stereo image. From there we can easily phase check and apply EQ and compression to suit.

Drum machine is another option, we use EziDrummer 2 and we do customised drum tracks all the time. We are sorta known for doing realistic sounding drum programming in other words "How a drummer would play it".

Once the drums are sorted you can move on to overdubs. NEXT
